Finance Reform Passes and Investment Advocate
July 15th 2010 22:32
I hope you all did not miss this section of the finance reform bill. This section and I have taken it right from the bill, mentions another Government Agency the Investor Advocate and with a position description. Question – how is this getting paid for? This is a good question since government spending has hit the trillion dollar mark and there are still 4 months left in the fiscal year (just a reminder we have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq). My next question is - are they looking at every ones portfolio? Are they going to tell you what stocks, bonds etc to buy?
That is way too much government for me and if they cannot take care of their own spending and investments (of course they could just print money but, oh that devalues it and makes it worthless) they why would I take the governments advice unless like Charlie Rangel and Timothy Geithner I do not have to pay taxes on what I make?
FUNCTIONS OF THE INVESTOR ADVOCATE- The Investor Advocate shall--
`(A) assist retail investors in resolving significant problems such investors may have with the Commission or with self-regulatory organizations;
`(B) identify areas in which investors would benefit from changes in the regulations of the Commission or the rules of self-regulatory organizations;
`(C) identify problems that investors have with financial service providers and investment products;
`(D) analyze the potential impact on investors of--
`(i) proposed regulations of the Commission; and
`(ii) proposed rules of self-regulatory organizations registered under this title; and
`(E) to the extent practicable, propose to the Commission changes in the regulations or orders of the Commission and to Congress any legislative, administrative, or personnel changes that may be appropriate to mitigate problems identified under this paragraph and to promote the interests of investors.
`(5) ACCESS TO DOCUMENTS- The Commission shall ensure that the Investor Advocate has full access to the documents of the Commission and any self-regulatory organization, as necessary to carry out the functions of the Office.
Mr. Brown I thought when you won the election you said and I quote
“In health care, we need to start fresh, work together, and do the job right. Once again, we can do better.
I will work in the Senate to put government back on the side of people who create jobs, and the millions of people who need jobs - and as President John F. Kennedy taught us, that starts with an across the board tax cut for individuals and businesses that will create jobs and stimulate the economy. It's that simple!
I will work in the Senate to defend our nation's interests and to keep our military second to none. As a lieutenant colonel and 30-year member of the Army National Guard, I will keep faith with all who serve, and get our veterans all the benefits they deserve.
And let me say this, with respect to those who wish to harm us, I believe that our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation - they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime. In dealing with terrorists, our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop them, not lawyers to defend them.
Raising taxes, taking over our health care, and giving new rights to terrorists is the wrong agenda for our country. What I've heard again and again on the campaign trail, is that our political leaders have grown aloof from the people, impatient with dissent, and comfortable in the back room making deals. And we can do better.
They thought you were on board with all of their ambitions. They thought they owned your vote. They thought they couldn't lose. But tonight, you and you and you have set them straight.
Across this country, we are united by basic convictions that need only to be clearly stated to win a majority. If anyone still doubts that, in the election season just beginning, let them look to Massachusetts.
Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over America. We are witnesses, you and I, to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machin The Huffington Post,.”
You voting record and the wild government spending that you have voted for tells me Mr. Brown that you have quickly acclimated yourself to being part of the political machine. So much for more idle promises and you do may find yourself a senator for a very short time.
What else are they going to be taking over and can any or all of this be repealed? Or maybe like the current immigration laws at exist this to will get ignored too. I don't think this adminsitration seems to what to control everything and maybe your investments.
