How to locate your Congressman and Senators

May 23rd 2010 07:13
It was my hope that I could direct you to where you could find a bill that was up for vote but I have yet to find a URL to provide you with that information. I have looked for three days so that I could call my senator (though one is a lame duck now) to let him know my opinion but I cannot find it. It is my opinion that you can listen to the pundits and their spin but they come with a point of view based on bias and a culture based on upbringing, beliefs and values. So you are better off reading the bill yourself and finding the parts you like or don’t like and debate those with your senator and congressman but I cannot find it. In fact this is the message that I get on the Government tracks web site: “The text of this bill is not available on GovTrack. If the bill was recently introduced, it may not be available yet from the Government Printing Office. If the bill is in GovTrack's historical data, the text of the bill may not be available online. You may have also followed an invalid link.”What I am doing is to provide the URL so that you can locate your senator and ask them to send you the link so that you can read the bill. It will not be easy because it is 1500 pages but as a concerned citizen and American you should have the right to read bills before they become law to determine if you like the law or not, this is not my opinion but what is constitutional.

For your information the Finance Reform Bill number is S3217. There are fragments of information that the pundits are talking about but not the enire bill. Also note the numbering so that is a future topic how bills get the number.

(I was hoping that I could provide screenshots of the pages but that is not possible).

The URL for Senators is Really Long Link

For retrieving the name of your representative you will need your Zip Code and four digit extension.

I hope this information helps you get involved with shaping you government. Just voting and sending your representatives to Washington without watching what they are doing was not the intent of the words “We the People” and has allowed apathy. So get to know your representatives, remind them that it is your tax dollars that pay their salaries and that they work for you. Whatever party affiliation, however you think about a particular bill you need to let them know.
