HR 6080 Bill for Border Patrol

August 10th 2010 20:55
HR6080 a bill that has beenvoted on and is an important read. OG to URL Really Long Link
This bill was introduced by Congressman Price on August 9, 2010 and it purpose is to make emergency supplemental appropriations for border security for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purposes (such as funds for Justice (for illegal immigration). This bill also comes with a price tag. HR 6080 has far reaching impact on various federal, state and city offices or parts of government, this bill could touch government offices such as but not limited to INS, the Department of Justice as well as US Immigration. The impact could also be felt by state troopers, state’s national guard and we know the struggles that Arizona is having with murders, rapes, capturing and transporting children across the border etc. The President has made promises to border state governors of sending more border patrol.

“President Obama plans to send 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to bolster border security measures. The troops will be accompanied by an extra $500 million President Obama has promised for border protection and law enforcement work” (Hing, 2010). Governor Perry of Texas asked President Obama yesterday (August 9, 2010) for more border patrol. “Border security is said to be the subject of a letter from Texas Governor Rick Perry to President Obama. The president visited the Lone Star State Monday. He was greeted at the Austin airport by Governor Perry. The governor handed the president a letter urging him to place an extra 1,000 national guard troops on the border with Mexico” (Griego, 2010).
In the past two years, Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has issued fiscal cost studies for California, Arizona, Texas and Florida looking at the same cost factors studied by the Urban Institute 10 years earlier, i.e., education3, emergency medical care and incarceration. Our findings of the annual net fiscal costs were: California

$8.8 billion
($1,183 per native household)

Arizona $1.03 billion
($717 per native household)
Texas $3.73 billion
($725 per native household)
Florida4
$.91 billion
($315 per native household)

These studies were done in 2004 and 2005, and the rapid continuing increase in the illegal immigrant population in each of these states would result in higher estimates of the fiscal cost today.
For what it is costing us in money, healthcare, prison space, deportation charges, the lives of border patrol agents etc. I would gladly pay my fair share for this bill, how about you? I give Kudos to the lawmakers for a bill that was worth passing so that the country can deal with the border crossing issue.
