The rebulic for which I stand

July 6th 2010 01:00
'The Republic is the only form of government which is not eternally at open or secret war with the rights of mankind'
- Thomas Jefferson
As most of us were growing up every day at school we would say the pledge of Allegiance.
If you do not remember the Pledge of Allegiance it is
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.”
But what is a republic? According to The Federalist as written in the Federalist Papers there are seven essential characteristics to our Republic of the United States. The Federalist Papers were published by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay in New York during 1787 and 1788. They were published to sway opinion in New York into ratifying the new American constitution. Our forefathers envisioned a nation that was a Republic, as instituted, there was government:

“1. With a Separation of Powers; No. 9, 47, 28, 76
2. By officers governing during a term
a. of limited time and/or
b. during good behaviour; Nos. 9, 39
3. By deputies of their own election; Nos. 9, 39
4. Wherein the power resides originally in the People; No. 39
5. That is deliberative in action; No. 71
6. That acknowledges the right of the people to alter or abolish the government whenever it becomes destructive toward the ends for which it was instituted; No. 78
7. That prohibits further grants of entitlement or nobility;
In our republic each party, group, and or individual should be included (this meant all those living in the United States) Indians, African American and the White Man) so each is entitled to representation. Today’s definition of representation is “an elected representative in a legislative body on behalf of the electorate in his or her constituency” The representation should be of the constituents not the special interest, not the unions and not the lobbyiest. but the people "We the People".

I encouage you to get a copy of the Feredalist Papers.Take the time to read the book and absorb what was written and take note what our fore fathers thought this country should be, what the government should be to and for the people who lived, worked and pledge their sacred honor to this country.
